Q: What does "clustered server architecture" mean?
A: A "cluster" is a group of servers, which run front-end web server software such as Apache or IIS and contain back-end database-type facilities like MySQL or Cold Fusion. A "clustered server architecture" allows for load balancing and data replication. This system design flow offers benefits in enhanced security, redundancy and enhanced performance. Load balancing is the process of distributing the "traffic load" of a single web site or other service across multiple servers. This can be achieved by either distributing the traffic evenly among all the servers in the cluster or alternatively the traffic can be routed to optimize the load on a particular server.
Q: How long does it take for my domain name to propagate to your servers?
A: It will take anywhere between 48-72 hours for your domain to be directed to our servers. If after that time it has not propagated then please contact our support staff. In most instances, with City Host your domain can be resolved to its full name within just a couple of hours or less upon registering it with us or transferring. We will also provide you with a temporary web site address so that you can upload your web site to your new account and prevent any downtime whatsoever. Making for a completely seamless process.
Q: What if I already own a domain name?
A: City Host does not charge to transfer Domain Names to our servers. This is FREE! Simply point your name servers with your Domain Registrar to ns1.cityhost.com and ns2.cityhost.com.
Q: What is the average response time to a support problem?
A: Our average is about 1-hour in support response time.
Q: Why are your plans priced so low?
A: Well, to be quite honest, they are not usually this low and in fact, have never been so low. We were so excited to release our new Windows Hosting Plan and now offer both Linux and Windows, we felt that it was cause for celebration! So what did we do? We dropped our plan pricing to a point so low, how could you pass it up?!? You might ask "so why so low?". We wanted to offer an incredible introductory offer price to simply get the word out about City Hosts' new plans along with the service and support, and better yet, the overall value that our customers receive. Don't have a mission critical web site, but just have a small or medium sized web site that you wish to publish for your business, or maybe some family photos? Then why pay so much more elsewhere?
